ATTENTION: Please note that at times parking spaces and/or areas may be reserved for special events, and an additional fee will be charged. If you choose to park in Lot 100 on a home football game day, then you will be charged the special event parking fee in order to do so. Special Parking Requests The Parking Office will consider parking requests from students (including freshmen) for parking privileges other than what is normally issued due to extenuating circumstances, which may include family-, work- or medical-related issues. Persons are, however, encouraged to use existing parking and transportation options [bus (CATA), pay lots, disabled parking spaces (with valid disabled parking placard or plate issued through the Secretary of State or Department of Motor Vehicles, etc.)]. A semester fee is charged for special parking privileges in addition to registering the vehicle with the Parking Office. If not approved, persons will be directed to use existing parking and transportation options. Bicycle PermitsBikes operated or possessed on campus must have a valid permit affixed and must be parked at a bike rack, locked, and in operable condition. To register your bicycle, you must have the serial number from the bike. This may be found in several different places on bikes depending on the make and model. The most common location for bike serial numbers is just under the seat and underneath the bike below the pedals. Be sure to know the make of the bike, the color of the bike, and whether the style is male or female. There is no cost for a bike permit. Bike permits must be obtained online ...click here for ONLINE BICYCLE Registration. All permits must be properly affixed to your bike before they are considered valid.
Car Pool Faculty/Staff PermitsIn order to support and encourage alternative transportation, car pool permits are available for employees that allow the same parking privileges as individual permits but at a reduced cost. In other words, you may park in the same lots you currently use. While most employees find car pool partners within their departments or buildings, a locator service is provided through a number of websites. http://www.cata.org/cleancommute/index.html http://www.frc.msu.edu/caring-for-you-worklife-balance/commuting/ You must purchase a car pool permit in person. Car pool permits are not available on-line. All members of the car pool must come in to the MSU Parking Office with their current vehicle registration, faculty/staff ID, and a copy of their appointment papers or PAN form. One decal will be issued to each person in the car pool. Each of the decals will have the same permit number on them. One “validator” will be issued for the entire car pool. The validator must be displayed on the vehicle that is parked on campus, thus only one vehicle may be on campus at a time. All decals must be properly affixed to your windshield to be considered valid. Car pool permits must be paid for at the time of purchase. They may not be payroll deducted. The cost per person of a car pool permit will depend upon how many are in the car pool. There is a limit of five persons per car pool. The cost is that of a multi faculty/staff permit divided among those in the car pool. You may pay by using American Express, Discover, Master Card, Visa, cash, or check or money order payable to MSU. For current costs please contact the MSU Parking Office at 517-355-8440 ext. 0. Each person in the car pool is eligible for one calendar permission day per month. This may be used if you need to drive separately. If you need to drive separately for more than one day per month, then you may purchase visitor permits on those days. Visitor permits are valid in any faculty/staff space on campus. They are not valid at meters, in leased spaces, in University vehicle spaces, or in disabled spaces (unless you have a current and valid disabled permit or plate displayed). All-day visitor permits are $6 each, four-hour visitor permits are $2 each, and two-hour visitor permits are $1 each. If you change vehicles, you must scrape off your permit and bring the pieces in for a new permit. There is a $2.00 replacement fee. If you are having your windshield replaced, you must scrape off your permit and bring in the pieces. We will then issue you a replacement permit for your new windshield for $2.00.
