Felonious Assault

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State University Police Department is investigating a felonious assault that occurred at 2 a.m. today on a sidewalk near Beaumont Tower and West Circle Drive.

The victim, a 19-year-old student, said she was walking from the library to Campbell Hall when she saw a male walking toward her. She told police as the two approached each other, the suspect grabbed her and held a pocketknife to her neck.

The suspect released her and fled the scene, when he saw two males walking toward them, said the student. She told the two men what had just occurred, and the three ran to the library and called 911.

The victim was not physically injured and refused medical treatment.

The female student described the suspect as a white man, age 20-25, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 180 pounds, brown eyes, scruffy brown/red hair and beard. He was last seen wearing a green camouflage coat and bluejeans.

MSU Police are asking anyone who may have information about this incident to contact the department at (517) 355-2222.

  2. Walk in well-lit areas if possible.
  3. Be aware of your surroundings and others in the area.
  4. Realize that listening to headphones or iPods or talking on your cell while walking decreases your awareness of your surroundings.
  5. Walk with others when possible.
