Man arrested on charges of felonious assault after running over MSU student
EAST LANSING, Mich. – A Michigan State University student was hospitalized with injuries he sustained when he was hit by a pickup truck near Armstrong Hall at about 10:26 p.m. Monday.
Police said they responded to a report of a personal injury accident on Brody Road West near Armstrong Hall. The student was transported by the East Lansing Paramedics to Sparrow Hospital where he is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup was arrested on charges of felonious assault and additional charges.
A witness told police he heard a vehicle quickly accelerating in the parking lot area near the southwest corner of Armstrong Hall. He observed a man running near or holding on to the passenger door before seeing the vehicle reach a speed that caused the man to fall and land on the road.
Witnesses gave police a detailed description of the vehicle that quickly led to a traffic stop on Saginaw Street, by East Lansing Police. MSU Police arrived and took custody of the suspects and the vehicle.
The three suspects are an 18-year-old East Lansing man; a 20-year-old Lansing man; and a 21-year-old Lansing man. The driver has been arraigned on charges of unarmed robbery and possession with intent to deliver in addition to the charges for felonious assault; and the passengers have been arraigned on charges for unarmed robbery and possession with intent to deliver. All are currently being held at the Ingham County Sheriff’s Department.
