MSU police investigating an attempted strong armed robbery

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan State University Police department is investigating an attempted strong armed robbery that occurred at 4:40 a.m. today near the football practice field off West Shaw Lane.

The victim, a 19-year-old student, said he was walking toward Wilson Hall when a stranger asked him if he knew what time it was and if he had a wallet. After replying that he did not have a wallet, the suspect punched the student in the face and knocked him out, according to police.

Once the student regained consciousness, he called police. The student, who received medical treatment for minor injuries, does not believe any weapons were involved.

Police said the student described the suspect as a white man, unknown age, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 185 pounds with brown hair, a buzz cut and no facial hair. He was last seen wearing a plain gray hooded sweatshirt.

MSU police are asking anyone who was in the area and may have seen anything or anyone matching the description of the suspect to contact the department at (517) 355-2222.
