Man reports theft of wallet near campus

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State University police are investigating the report of a theft that occurred at 2 p.m. Jan. 25 downtown East Lansing.
 
The 28-year-old man, who is not affiliated with MSU, told police that he had been shopping on Grand River and was walking to his car in Lot 9 near Berkey Hall when the suspect approached him and asked for a cigarette.
 
As the man reached for his cigarettes, the suspect snatched the man’s wallet and fled. The man chased the suspect toward Lot 9 and the adjacent greenhouse where he lost sight of the suspect. The victim was not injured.
 
The suspect is described as being a white man in his mid 20s with a thin build, 6 feet 5 inches tall, 170 pounds, fair skin with brown hair and dark eyes, and a brown goatee. He was wearing a grey stocking hat and dark blue jeans. He also was carrying a brown shoulder bag.
 
MSU police are asking anyone who was in the area and may have seen anything or anyone matching the description of the suspect to contact their department at 355-2222.

  2. Be aware of your surroundings and others in the area.
  3. Realize that listening to headphones or iPods or talking on your cell while walking decreases your awareness of your surroundings.
