Woman reports sexual assault, police investigating

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State University Police are investigating a report of an alleged sexual assault at Lot 30 by Fee Hall at 6 p.m. Jan. 20.

A 19-year-old student told police she was assaulted by three men near Lot 30 as she walked to her vehicle. She said one male approached her from her right side and placed his arm around her left shoulder, while the second male approached her from her left side and placed his arm around her right shoulder and the third male followed her from behind. She stated the men also made obscene comments.

The student stated as they reached the railroad tracks, the two suspects released her and began running across the street in an unknown direction. The student told police that she ran to her vehicle and drove to a university facility, where she contacted an acquaintance who called the police.

The woman did not sustain any injuries and refused medical attention.

The student described all of the suspects ranging in age from 18 to 23 and approximately 6 feet tall. She further described the suspects as: a black male with a dark complexion, heavy set, wearing black baggy jeans with a black and gold leather jacket; a thin black male with a dark complexion, wearing a silver chain, a puffy multicolored jacket with unknown lettering and black jeans; and a white male with a fair complexion, wearing a blue/white flat-brimmed baseball cap.

  2. Walk in well-lit areas if possible.
  3. Be aware of your surroundings and others in the area.
  4. Realize that listening to headphones or iPods or talking on your cell while walking decreases your awareness of your surroundings.
  5. Walk with others when possible.
